British Poker Awards: PokerNews Predictions

British Poker Awards

There is still time to vote in the first British Poker Awards, which takes place in London at the Kensington Close Hotel on September 13. To vote go to http://www.thebritishpokerawards.com/ and have your say.

We have had a look at some of the categories and this is who we think has a chance for a gong this year:

Reader's Choice: Best Cash Player
Nominees:
Neil Channing
Richard Ashby
Luke Schwartz
Ben Grundy
Ben Roberts
Bambos Xanthos
PokerNews Prediction: Ben Grundy.

This is such a touch category to call because it’s hard to truly know the results of these players at the cash table (in fact some are speculated to have had losing years) plus some are online players and others live. We think amongst all that uncertainty, Ben Grundy really sticks out for posting some of the most solid multi million dollar graphs for his PLO winnings in the last few years.

Reader's Choice: Best Tournament Player
Nominees:
James Akenhead
Sam Trickett
Chris Moorman
Praz Bansi
James Dempsey
JP Kelly
PokerNews Prediction: Praz Bansi

Yet another tough category, this time because the UK has boasted some of the best tournament players of the last 12 months (So much so that Jake Cody, James Mitchell, Toby Lewis, Liv Boeree and three bracelet winners haven’t even made it onto the list). Not only did he bag his 2nd bracelet but Praz Bansi came very close in the WSOPE last year and we think that might edge it for him.

British Poker Awards: PokerNews Predictions 101

Reader's Choice: Best Online Player
Nominees:
Chris “Moorman1” Moorman
Richard “Chufty” Ashby
Lawrence “Rivermanl” Houghton
Luke “__FullFlush1__” Schwartz
Ben “milkybarkid” Grundy
PokerNews Prediction: ???????

We really cant pick a winner here, we are not sure what the voters will be going for. For consistency you would have to think Moorman or Grundy, but for nosebleed games Richard Ashby has a shot and if you just want a character then FullFlush is in with a shout.

Reader's Choice: Best International Player
Nominees:
Phil Ivey
Tom Dwan
Patrik Antonius
Michael Mizrachi
Sorel Mizzi
Isildur1
PokerNews Prediction: Phil Ivey

He’s the man. Universally recognised as the best player in the world and in the last 12 months he has won millions online, bagged another bracelet and topped the all time money rankings following making the WSOP main event final table. Argue against that!

British Poker Awards: PokerNews Predictions 102

Reader's Choice: Best Poker League
Nominees:
The Poker Tree
Redtooth poker
Masters Poker League
APAT
Champions Poker League
Poker in the Pub
Live Pub Poker League
Get Noticed Poker League
Nuts Poker League
PokerNews Prediction: APAT

This really is going to come down to the loyalty of the people on these tours and how many of them vote. For that reason we think that the very savvy and loyal APAT members will make their voices heard most clearly for this one.

Reader's Choice: Best UK Card Room
Nominees:
Victoria Casino
The International Club
Dusk Till Dawn
Casino at the Empire
The G Casino chain
The Palm Beach
Bluff at the Mint
PokerNews Prediction: Dusk Till Dawn

Another very tough category which reminds you how lucky we are in the UK to have so many great card rooms. We think that the shear enthusiasm and loyalty that is shown to Dusk Till Dawn (which is there because of the amazing job they do) will see them get the gong at the end of the day.

Reader's Choice: Best Contribution to Poker
Nominees:
Anthony Holden
Simon Trumper
Tony Kendall
Marty Wilson
Jesse May
Victoria Coren
B]PokerNews Prediction: Tony Kendall[/B]

It’s unfortunate that many readers may not know just how hard some of the nominees here work to make poker the huge industry it is here and it could come down to a popularity contest. However nicely positioned in the middle is Tony Kendall, who not only is one of the busiest and most hard working men in the game, he also has an army of loyal fans at Sky Poker, Blondepoker and APAT.

British Poker Awards: PokerNews Predictions 103

Reader's Choice: Best UK Poker Forum
Nominees:
BlondePoker
The Hendon Mob
Aworldofpoker
SkyPoker
Gutshot
PokerNews Prediction: Blondepoker

Another category that will be determined by the loyalty of the fanbase, but we think Blondepoker will edge it. They have had a rollercoaster year with lots of drama and plenty of joy when several members took down bracelets and EPTs, plus they have a very loyal community who should vote in their droves.

You can still vote AND you can still attend this star studded event for the reduced price of £39, at http://www.thebritishpokerawards.com/.
