UK Pokernews Roundup: Main Event Down to 205 Players, Rob Akery Makes WPT Final Table, and more
Main Event Down to 205
It’s getting very serious over at the Rio and no doubt the agents are getting ready to sweet talk the remaining 205 runners in the World Series of Poker Main Event. Lots of big names remain in the field including Johnny Chan, Bryn Kenney, Phil Galfond and Theo Jorgensen, but regrettably not many Brits.
Praz Bansi, Neil McFadyean, John Kabbaj, Richard Ellis and Darren Woods all bust out last night but double bracelet winner JP Kelly is flying high for the Brits with 1,474,000. Javed Abrahams is also doing well with just over a million while Redmond Lee and Jamie Brown have a little under that. From what we can tell, that’s about it for UK players, all of whom are guaranteed at least $48,847.
Also doing very well is Irishman James Fennell, who is sitting on just over 2 million in 20th place.

Rob Akery Makes WPT Final Table
The year of the Brits is not exclusive to the WSOP as over at the Bellagio the World Poker Tour has reached the final table of the Bellagio Cup. This was a unique event where players could opt to buy-in 48 hours into the tournament on the 11th level. One of the players who did just that is poker legend Phil Ivey who has managed to make the final table, as has last years finalist Justin Smith.
But all UK eyes will be on Rob Akery of Bristol, who is currently 4th in chips with 1,980,000. Its $875,150 to the winner and this would be a real icing on the cake for the best ever year by the Brits in Vegas.
1 John Caridad 5,120,000
2 Moritz Kranich 2,750,000
3 Justin Smith 2,100,000
4 Robert Akery 1,980,000
5 Phil Ivey 1,595,000
6 Eric Afriat 620,000
