Colin McTaggart Wins GUKPT Walsall, Poker Show Returns Tonight + more
Colin McTaggart Wins GUKPT Walsall
206 runners in total tried to emulate last year’s winner Sunny Chattha at the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Walsall Main Event. For the second time, a player has emerged from a free entry organised by aworldofpoker.com to capture the title. 30 year old Collin McTaggart from Ormskirk won a freeroll organised by BlueSquare and aworldofpoker.com and parlayed it into a win last night, emulating night-watchman Brian ‘weebrick’ Clarke who did the same thing at the Blackpool GUKPT in 2008.
“It had been my goal to play in a GUKPT main event this year and I was delighted to have won my way in via the AWOP Players' Club. It is a dream to have gone on to claim the win. All it has cost me is £30 in petrol money” said a delighted McTaggart, who not only won £57,700 but also a spot in the £150,000 Champion of Champions Freeroll.
The final table included GUKPT champion Mike Ellis and Champion of Champions winner Haitao Wu, bubbling the final table was back to back champion Priyan de Mel, whom you can see in our exclusive interview with us later on this week. The tour now heads south to London, where the Grosvenor Victoria Casino will play host to Leg 3, which takes place from 18th - 28th March. The buy-in for the main event at the London festival will be larger than usual, costing £1,500 to play.

UK player Matt Perrins of Manchester is at the final table of the Pokerstars IPT San Remo today, currently 4th in chips. The young online tournament specialist made his name last year when he won IPT Venice in August and is in very good shape to be the tours first repeat winner, with his sights on the €227,000 first prize. Perrins is already 5th in the overall IPT leader board and only needs to avoid a few bust outs today to the jump to the top of it.
