Hassan Irfan Wins DTD Deepstack, 2009 European Poker Awards Announced

Hassan Irfan

Hassan Irfan Wins DTD Deepstack
2010 started with a bang over at Dusk Till Dawn as the first £300 monthly deepstack event took place over the weekend. For the first time ever there was an overlay in this popular event, as £11,900 was payed out by the club as only 227 players turned up (‘Only’ seems such a silly word for such a fantastic turnout). The overlay is unlikely to be a reflection on the club itself, it is simply just a bad time of the year for people financially, because of Xmas holiday commitments and also because of the travel conditions.

The event was won by Hassan Irfan who came 2nd in this event in March 2009. Both he and his heads up opponent Andriena Nutt had been amassing chips rapidly since day one and were destined to collide, which ended with Hassan spiking a queen on the flop with king-queen against the pocket eights of Nutt, to give Hassan a £24,684 pay day:

1 Hassan Irfan £24,684
2 Andriena Nutt £14,431
3 Stephen Lockett £8,658
4 Vaidas Siriunas £6,076
5 David Lines £4,557
6 Nii Carboo £3,418
7 Bernard Gabriel £2,658
8 James Fuzzey £1,899
9 Anthony Kennedy £1,519

European Poker Awards Nominations Announced
The candidates for the 2009 European Poker Awards have been revealed, which will be announced on the 12th of February at the ACF in Paris. Rather surprisingly, from a UK perspective, neither double bracelet winning JP Kelly and WSOP/WSOPE/Poker Million star James Akenhead didn’t make it into the nominations. However there is still a very good showing for the UK and Ireland, with Kara Scott, Lynne Beaumont, Martin Silke, Chris Moorman, Jude Ainsworth, Paul Spillane, Simon Trumper and Eddie Hearn all up for gongs.

Chris Moorman is a contender for online player of the year.

Good news for Pokernews as our very own Tony G is up for an innovation award and not to brag but for the first time ever there will be an award for online player of the year, which was the brainchild of myself last year and the good folks at the European Poker Awards agreed that online players needed to be represented at these prestigious awards.
