Waheed Ashraf Wins Dusk Till Dawn Monte Carlo Main Event

Waheed Ashraf

The £250,000 guaranteed Monte Carlo main event at Dusk Till Dawn went to plan over the weekend, avoiding a potential overlay and the threat of hazardous weather affecting numbers along the way. After shelling out more than £30,000 in overlay from the guaranteed satellites, plus the £56,000 overlay paid by the club in their previous Grand Slam event earlier this year, there will have been relief all round when a nice round 300 players came for the £1000 event, overtaking the guarantee by £50,000.

The final big poker weekend of the year naturally it attracted a lot of big names, including Jeff Kimber, Paul Foltyn, Dave Colclough, Lucy Rokach, Stuart Rutter, Ian Woodley, Nik Persaud, Surinder Sunar, James Dempsey and Karl Mahrenholz. All of whom fell by the wayside in a relatively short time (Considering the generous 30,000 starting stacks and slow clock) and by early Sunday evening we were down to the final table.

At one point it was looking like local legend Yucel ‘the Mad Turk’ Eminoglu was going to run away with it, but in the end it was another local hero, Waheed ‘Wadey’ Ashraf who emerged the champion. After a four way deal, Paul Ratchford conceded defeat to Ashraf and the two men agreed a deal where Ratchford (From Canada who won an online league to book his seat in this event) took an additional £8000 from their original deal and Ashraf took an extra £10,000 and the title, much to the joy of the Nottingham crowd.

1 Waheed Ashraf £68,000
2 Paul Ratchford £53,000
3 Ashique Miah £29,000
4 Yucel Eminoglu £50,000
5 Stephen Eames £17,190

8 Malcolm Muskett £7,163
9 Craig Mccorkell £5,730
