Online Gambling Reaches New High in the UK
The percentage of adults in the UK participating in remote forms of gambling has risen to its highest level in four years, according to the UK Gambling Commission, who sampled a group of 2000 volunteers. Remote gambling has risen to 9.9% to March 2009, compared to 9.7%, 8.8% and 7.2% in the last four years respectively.
The National Lottery was said to be the biggest single catalyst for the increase in gambling participation with 5.6% of the survey saying they participated. Internet gambling made up for 8.2% of all participation, making it the most popular medium to gamble (compared to interactive TV and mobile gambling).
As usual men are much more likely to be participating in remote gambling, with 12.2% of men having participated compared to 7.7% of women, with the most active age group being 25-34 year olds.

UK WSOP Watch List – Chris Moorman
The 2009 World Series of Poker is less than a week away now and here at UK Pokernews we will be taking a tremendously biased view on the proceedings, following the efforts of the players from the United Kingdom. Last year was quite a barren series for the UK, with only one bracelet being won by Marty Smyth when he won the $10,000 PLO, there were some good other results however including Julian Thew winning the Venetian Deepstack Main Event and James Akenhead coming 2nd in event number one, the $1500 no limit event.
So for the next week or so we will be profiling some of the players we think have a really good shot out in Vegas this summer of coming back with some gold around their wrists. Today we take a look at Chris 'Moorman1' Moorman.
Unless you have been living under a rock for the last two years, you will know that not only is Chris Moorman the top online tournament player in the UK, he is currently one of the best ranked in the world having occupied the top spot for a lot of last year and in contention this year. Turning a freeroll win into millions in online winnings, he is one of the most successful online tournament players ever, but is yet to make a major impact on the live scene.
We think he is really due a big live result and we think Vegas will not know what has hit it this summer when 'Moomin' gets to the tables. Vegas was the site of his first live cash last year and he will probably be playing all the hold'em events (Maybe even the $40,000 event?) so it shouldn't be long before that big WSOP final table is on his resume.
Of course he has the extra motivation this year, to beat his Dad, who won the GUKPT Manchester Main Event last month
