Irish Open Starts Today
One of the biggest and most popular tournaments in Europe begins today, the Paddy Power Poker Irish Open. Last year Neil Channing became a superstar when he took this event down, just as Marty Smyth did in 2007, and over 600 players are expected to try and do the same this year. The €3,200 main event starts at 2pm at the CityWest Hotel in Dublin, as well as a number of juicy looking side events including a €300+€30 PLO Rebuy, a Ladies Event and a Charity Event.
Ram Vaswani, Roland De Wolfe, Peter Eastgate and Andy Black are all amongst the favourites at 80-1. There will be a host of betting and in play betting available at Paddy Power during the event including 'to make the final table' and 'to make the money' betting along with the outright winner. We fully expect Neil Channing to make a fighting defence of his title and he might be worth a look in the final table and make the money markets.
And you can make your picks with the best possible vantage point right here, as we will be streaming the live coverage of the event right here at UK Pokernews all weekend:
But if you want in depth analysis from inside the rail, with hand analysis, chip counts and bust outs, our world class live updates will be there from start to finish.
Sky Poker Launch Sky Poker School and Vegas Lite Packages
Speaking of Neil Channing, he is the new guest instructor on the new Sky Poker show Sky Poker School. Nick Wealthall is presenting a series of in depth poker tutelage that, rather than analysing hands as they happen on shows like the Open, will be taking a broader subject matter and dissecting it. Roland De Wolfe is the first guest who will be discussing early tournament strategy, which is airing right now, and later on in April Neil Channing will be in for three shows discussing cash game strategy.
What's more, Sky Poker have been busy at the tables too and have launched an excellent looking Vegas Lite Package for those of you who want to spend the Summer in Vegas but might want to stay away from the main event. The £4000 package includes entry into a $1,500 bracelet event, flights for two and 14 days accommodation in Vegas. You will also get to hang out with the Sky Poker Team who did a very good job of looking after their players last year and see all the sights Sin City has to offer.
The Vegas Lite Grand Finals are held at 9.30pm on Saturday 25th April & 30th May 2009, all players begin with 5000 chips and the blinds will increase every 15 minutes. 1 in 10 Players will win a £4000 Vegas Lite Package and we will guarantee one package in each final. You can satellite your way to the Grand Finals from as little as £2.60, or buy in direct at any stage from £10.50 for a Daily Quarter-Final up to £440 for the Grand Finals, all exclusively at Sky Poker.
$1,000,000 Bonus for Everest Poker WSOP Qualifiers
Multi lingual poker room Everest Poker are upping the ante for their online qualifiers at the World Series of Poker this year. They have announced that they will be matching the winnings of their qualifiers at the WSOP up to $1 million and then sharing it with all the qualifiers regardless of finishing position.
So let's say you bust out on the first hand but another Everest Poker player goes on to win a million at the final table, you'll be taking the same cut of $1 million that everyone else is. Based on the previous year, 62 players would have banked $20,000 each regardless of finishing position.
An Everest Poker spokesman commented: ""Our aim last year, our first as official sponsor, was to encourage more European players than ever before to go to the WSOP — which we did. This year we want to reward that loyalty by offering a knock-out reason to qualify with us. This bonus gives everybody hope of winning something even if they are out early and it will also give an added sense of camaraderie to all those qualified with us."
So what are you waiting for? Starting winning your WSOP seat from as little as $3 on Everest Poker, fly out to Vegas, bust out on day one and wait for the money to start rolling in.
