Ladbrokes announce €250,000 Guaranteed Irish Poker Festival + more
Ladbrokes Announce Irish Poker Festival
Last year it was one of the breakout successes of the European poker scene and it looks set to be just as big this year. Ladbrokes Poker have unveiled their 2009 Irish Poker Festival, which will once again take place in Killarney on October 2nd to 4th. Last year it attracted 832 players which made it the biggest European ranking event ever staged. Last year Jimmy McSweeney pocketed a cool €100,000 by winning this event and once again, €250,000 will be guaranteed in the prize pool and that number will surely be surpassed again.
It will once again be held at the INEC in Killarney, which I had the pleasure of staying in last week and its a fantastic venue. Killarney is one of the most scenic places in Ireland, the poker room is huge with overhead viewing for railbirds and there is plenty to do for non poker playing partners. Players will also have exclusive access to the Ladbrokes hospitality, which includes games rooms with pool, darts and much more.
Online qualifiers can win a €950 package, which includes €550 Main Event buy-in and three nights' accommodation at the Gleneagle Hotel. This package is available exclusively through Ladbrokes Poker with satellites starting from €5.
Paddy Power Launch More Irish Open Betting Markets
While we are on the subject of Irish Poker, Paddy Power Poker are adding more markets to the Irish Open Betting ahead of the main event next month. They have added the Sole Survivor market and 08 Final Table Player to Last Longest market.
The final Table 08 market naturally has Neil Channing as the favourite, he is the man in form and the one everyone will be betting on (No doubt he will have a punt on himself too):
Neil Channing 4/1
Eric Larcheveque 5/1
Thomas Dunwoodie 11/2
Tim Blake 6/1
Edwin Tournier 6/1
Donal Norton 6/1
Kai Danilo Paulsen 6/1
Carsten Joh 8/1
The Sole Surivor is much bigger, much harder to pick and potentially very interesting market. It's made up of all the online qualifiers from Paddy Power Poker and a lot of the names you won't recognise, but if there is a unknown star in the making now is a great time to have a punt on them when the bookies don't have a clue. UK player Steve Jelinek is the favourite in this market, no wonder as he just came 14th in the EPT Dortmund and does very well in large field events like this.
In other news, poker legend 'Action' Dan Harrington is the latest high profile name to add his name to the player list; the WSOP champion is one of the outright favourites at 100/1.
Sol Centrals Northampton Hold em Masters
An interesting looking well structured tournament next month in Northampton with added value. The Gala Casino in Northampton will play host to the Sol Centrals Northampton Hold'em Masters on the 17th and 18th of April. It's a £300+£30 event with a 10,000 stack and one hour blind levels. £1000 has been added to the prize pool as well as a short break for 2 in Gibraltar courtesy of Sol Central. £3000 has already been guaranteed to the winner and a £30,000 prize pool is expected.
PKR Sending Players to the Champions League Final
Let's face it, a British team is making it to the Champions League Final, possibly two teams, but whoever gets there its going to be a fantastic event. PKR are giving away six VIP packages to the event in Rome worth $3,500 as part of their Club PKR loyalty scheme. Each fantastic package includes return flights, two-nights' accommodation and two full days of golf at the luxurious Sheraton Golf Parco de' Medici Hotel and Resort, plus one of the best seats in the Olympic Stadium for the biggest football match on the planet.
The six top points earners in April on PKR will win the packages, but it's only open to Gold, Platinum and Diamond VIP members. PKR have a fantastic policy of 'always up, never down' so if you were a Gold member you still are one, even if you took an extended break from the tables. Promotions like this are all the more reason to play at PKR as is a fantastic $2000 sign up bonus when you sign up via Pokernews.
