GUKPT Walsall Starts this Weekend
The second leg of the 2009 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour begins this weekend in the hub of midlands poker in Walsall. The popular destination for UK poker players will be hosting a 9 day festival, culminating in the £1000+£60 main event. Last year Jeff Kimber reigned supreme and this really is one of the
that the circuit pros want to win.
The winners of all the events at the festival will also secure seats in the end-of-year Champion of Champions Tournament, which boasts a £100,000 prize pool. Once again it will be very interesting to see what the numbers are like for this festival, because so far the credit crunch does seem to have affected turn out for the main events (as they are all over the world) but the side events have all been huge, selling out and with big alternates lists.
The 9 day schedule looks like this:
Sat 21 - Sun 22 Feb at 8.00 pm £ 100 + 10 No Limit Hold'em Rebuys available. 3000 Starting chips.
Sun 22 - Mon 23 Feb at 8.00 pm £ 150 + 15 No Limit Hold'em 6000 Starting chips.

SPUKT Satellites this Weekend
Some of the most hotly contested super satellites anywhere in online poker have to be the Sky Poker UK Tour satellites, because these events always sell out weeks before the event starts. The much anticipated Grande Finale takes place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June 2009 at Dusk Till Dawn and the satellites will begin this Sunday. Feeders begin from £3.30 and are exclusive to Sky Poker.
In other great Sky Poker tournament news, the poker room is launching at Bounty Hunter Championship. The popular new tournament format now has its own leader board, and the top 10 bounty hunters who score points in the two daily Bounty tournaments will win a seat in the £20k Bounty Hunter event on the 25th of February, which will be televised on channel 865.
Lady Maverick in a UK Tabloid
There are not many poker players that can profess to be 'famous' in the traditional showbiz sense of the word. But Pokerstars.net Pro Vanessa Rousso found herself on page 36 of The Sun yesterday posing in a bikini. Lady Maverick was being photographed for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition and answered a few questions for the UK Tabloid. We were absoloutly amazed that the reporter managed to get away from a 'top pair' pun that is so often a staple part of mainstream poker reporting.
"There's no reason why a man would be any more successful than a woman at playing it" she told the newspaper "In fact, it's my belief that women are equipped with the feminine instinct and a certain patience which lets them be more successful in tournament poker"
Love it or hate it, this is always very good exposure for poker as the more the media attempts to make showbiz, the more new players it exposes to the game.
