Marc Goodwin to be GUKPT and European Player of the Year?
Although we haven't seen an official press release for it yet, it looks like Marc Goodwin is the GUKPT player of the year following his amazing run of final tables as well as winning the Manchester main event and a Blackpool side event. What you may not know, is that he could well win the European player of the year award from nowhere, after his run of 3 final tables at last week's festival.
Goodwin came 2nd in two side events and 3rd in another last week in London, before going into these events he had 4.994 points in the PokerinEurope rankings and we reckon after those events he will be on about 6,300 – 200 more than current leader Jason Mercier on 6,100. This year Goodwin has made 11 ranking final tables and won two events outright, with earnings well over £150,000 for the year.
Don't take our word as gospel on this, because this was a rough guesstimate on our part and of course the poker year isn't over yet, but what a fantastic story it would be. Especially when you consider that he could win the award based primarily on his form on a UK poker tour, if he even comes close to the double would be remarkable for both Goodwin, the GUKPT and UK poker in general.
