One of the big successes of the 2007 UK Circuit has announced details on its 2008 schedule. The Great British Poker Tour (GBPT) is back once again this year. Alongside the GUKPT, the GBPT provided UK players with the right mix of affordability and playability but still with the promise of a small fortune and national exposure on the horizon. Not many other places in the UK offer a 10,000 starting stack and hour clock for a £550 buy-in and this tour attracted a welcome mix of pros and amateurs alike.
One gripe with the tour last year was simply that not enough of us could get in on the action, with a limited number of seats on offer. This has clearly been appeased this time round with the introduction of two day 1's which means there is plenty of chance to get involved. There is also a comprehensive live and online qualification schedule in place to suit all levels.
Once again the winner of each event will also win an all expenses paid trip to the Grand Final in Bristol, where reigning Champ Joe Beevers will be defending his title. He commented "I really enjoyed playing the Gala Casinos British Poker Tour events all over the UK last year and will be playing the tour in 2008 trying to defend my title. I will be in Edinburgh when the tour kicks off again in February - with fellow Mobster, Barny Boatman, who'll be trying to go better than his third place finish in the Grand Final at Bristol."
Added value is the name of the game in this tour. If you win one of the £100-200 side events on each leg of the tour you automatically win a seat to that leg's Main Event. Players that come in 2nd or 3rd in the Main Event will win a seat to the following months Main Event. Also, last year's grand final had some awesome value, where everyone at the final table won a seat into another big event – including the Aussie Millions and the EPT.
Mark O'Donnell, Gala Casinos British Poker Tour Manager, said: "What sets us apart is that we attract the best poker talent from across Britain and Europe alongside amateur players and relative newcomers to the game. The tour promises to have something for everyone – nail-biting clashes, absolute professionalism and the unique Gala Casinos atmosphere of the live events. A prize at the final table is genuinely within everyone's grasp. The Gala Casinos British Poker Tour really is the people's poker tour."
