Qualifiers for the Irish Championship Begin at PartyPoker 0001

The PartyPoker.com Irish Championship is being held from January the 3rd until January the 6th at the Radisson Hotel & Spa, Galway, Ireland. With the starting date arriving soon online qualification has already begun at PartyPoker. This will be the first major Irish event sponsored by PartyPoker and the first held in Europe for 2008.

The main online qualifiers take place every Tuesday and have a buy-in of $220. There are satellites to the main qualifier running every day on PartyPoker, with the cheapest starting at $3. There will be a $5000 package for every 25 players in the main qualifier. For an outlay of $3 you could win a fantastic poker opportunity and the chance to get 2008 off to a successful start.

The $5,000 packages for the PartyPoker.com Irish Poker Championships include:

$2,800 buy-in
$1,000 spending money
Accommodation in a luxury Hotel
$200 airport transfer costs

The €2,000 (9 percent withheld) buy-in main event is expected to have a field of at least 400 players from across Ireland, the UK, Europe and the United States. It will be a televised event, with six hour-ling broadcasts on RTÉ - Ireland's national broadcaster. The event will also be distributed internationally. The field will be a world class line up, with Mike Sexton indicating he will play. Also expected to take part are WSOP bracelet winners Ciaran O'Leary and Michael Keiner, Padraig Parkinson, Scott Gray, Bruno Fitoussi, Rehne Pederson and Jan Sørensen. In a major coup for the tournament, 1999 WSOP Main Event winner Noel Furlong has come out of Poker retirement to play!

A spokesman for the event sponsors, PartyPoker.com, said: "We are delighted that the tournament organizers have secured Noel Furlong's participation. Imagine winning the WSOP Main Event, vanishing into thin air and retiring from the game, exactly what Noel did! We expect him to run well in the tournament as getting a read on him is likely to be very hard. There will be very little television coverage that gives pointers to how he plays."

The Championship will have a fantastic selection of support tournament. The full schedule for the event is:

Thursday 3rd January 2008 - Super Satellite - €200 + €20

Friday 4th January 2008 - Main Event Day 1 - €2,000 (9 percent withheld) No Limit Hold'em Freezeout
