Paddy Power Poker have unveiled some early details about the 2008 Irish Open and the Emerald Isles flagship poker tournament looks set to smash more records. This year team Pokernews brought you all the action from Dublin when 708 players ponied up €3,300 to compete for the €2.3 million prizepool and 2008 is going to be even bigger.
The next Irish Open is already promising an increased buy-in of €4,500 and increased player capacity of 1000 players. To accommodate this many poker players the event will be split into two day 1s. All of this is combined will result in a €3 million guaranteed prize pool, making it one of the biggest ever tournaments in Europe.
This year's event saw some of the cream of the poker world fly over to Dublin, including Carlos Mortenson, Dan Harrington, Mike Sexton, Phil Laak, Jennifer Tilly, Antonio Esfandiari, Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott, David Benyamine, Andy Black, Padraig Parkinson and Ram Vaswani. The final saw Roland De Wolfe and Marty Smyth duke it out until Smyth emerged the 2007 Irish Open Champion.
Online qualifiers will commence on Paddy Power Poker from the 13th of August with a fortnightly grand final to the main event. The Irish Open takes place in April and that means you have a lot of opportunity to nab a seat to the biggest tournament in Europe between now and then.
