The World Series of Poker Comes to London
The World Series of Poker is coming to Europe and London is set to be the venue for a series of "bracelet" events in September this year. With an expected prize pot of around £7.5 Million a few eyebrows are bound to be raised by professionals worldwide.
The inaugural WSOP Europe is scheduled to debut in London between 6-16 September 2007. The new poker series will be held at three casinos operated by London Clubs International – Fifty, Leicester Square and the Sportsman. Three of the UK's finest card room venues, as many will testify.
Jeffrey Pollack, World Series of Poker Commissioner said, "This is the first time bracelets will be awarded outside of Las Vegas. The World Series of Poker Europe will have a unique identity, style and flair, but will remain true to the 38-year tradition and heritage of the WSOP. This new tournament has been designed with European players in mind, but registrants from every country are welcome. We hope it becomes an annual tradition for poker enthusiasts and a home for WSOP fans after the action concludes in Las Vegas each summer."
Bill Timmins, chief executive officer of London Clubs International enthused, "We are honored to host this unique extension of the world's richest and oldest poker tournament. As the exclusive offline satellite host, LCI will enable players to compete in our poker rooms in London, Manchester, Nottingham, Southend and Brighton for a seat in every WSOP Europe event."
The inaugural World Series of Poker Europe festival will begin on the 6th of September. The event will kick off with a three-day, £2,500 H.O.R.S.E tournament at LCI's newest casino in Leicester Square. The Leicester Square casino, which will open its doors for the first time in May, will also be the host casino for a two-day, £5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event starting 8th September.
The WSOP Europe will culminate in a seven day, $10,000 main event. WSOP Europe expect 750 players to attend with the seating arrangements being split between the three London venues to begin with. On day 4 the remaining players will head to Leicester Square to fight it out for the championship.
