Party Poker Launches Premier League Poker 0001

Viewers of Channel 4 TV in the UK will be the first to see a new "groundbreaking" poker series featuring a poker league of a dozen of the biggest poker talents in the world. Phil Hellmuth, Tony G, The Devilfish and more will be in it to win it!

The Premier League Poker series has been developed by Matchroom Sport and the league will boast a $500,000 prize pot.

The structure is designed to "showcase the legendary poker prowess of each player" by requiring them to play six times in the preliminary stages. Of the starting twelve, four will be eliminated at the end of the preliminaries, leaving two sets of four to progress. The leading four will progress to the final table of six. The remaining four will be battling for the remaining two places and will do this by playing heads-up matches.

All twelve players are required to put $20,000 up as buy-in, making $240,000, and the remaining $260,000 is contributed by Party Poker.

There is no doubt this event will feature some top rated poker and maybe even some X-rated stuff given the potential clash of personalities. Take a look at the list of entrants:

Phil Hellmuth

Dave "The Devilfish" Ulliott

Tony G

Andy Black

Kirill Gerasimov

Ten-times WSOP Gold Bracelet winner, Phil Hellmuth commented:

"I love the UK and feel at home there, so I am really looking forward to Premier League Poker. It's always challenging to match wits with the world's best poker players but I'm coming for the title - make no mistake about that!"

Poker Director of Matchroom Sport, Eddie Hearn, said:

"We are delighted to bring these players together for this exciting new event. Premier League Poker has everything; some of the biggest names in world poker, big prize money and international TV distribution."

Filming gets underway on Monday 26th February at Maidstone Studios, Kent, with the Grand Final taking place on 4th March.
