European poker guru and editor of Poker Europa magazine, Nic Szeremeta, has taken first place in the €500 Pot Limit Hold'em tournament, at Nova Gorica, in the 15th Annual Torneo di Poker.
You could be forgiven for believing Nic Szeremeta is too busy editing his extremely popular poker magazine, Poker Europa, to have the time to actually play the game he writes about! Indeed, Szeremeta has not had a major festival result for well over 12 months. His last, a minor placing at the Crown Australian Poker Championships, Melbourne, in January 2005 was the only one for that year. A win has been almost three years in the making, since his last victory in Cork, Ireland, in the summer of 2003.
However, as the old saying goes "You can't keep a good man down". Szeremeta, played some outstanding poker to claim 1st place in Nova Gorica. The official result detailed a 3-way deal between Nic, Naim Kalayci from Turkey and George Mckeever from Ireland. Each player taking home well over €10,000 from the deal.
Szeremeta is a well travelled poker player. With finals and cash finishes in 10 countries worldwide. His largest to date being his latest win in Nova Gorica but, Nic has taken down a tournament here before too. Back in May 2000 he won a Limit Hold'em tournament here, scooping a little over $11,500 in the process. Although Nic doesn't often play in the main events and larger buy-ins, he still remains one of the most consistent poker players in Europe over the last 10 years (for number of games played) and he is instrumental in the development of poker in our continent.
If only he could play a little more often.
