We are already into March, so this seems like a good time to highlight a major Irish poker event to be held over the Easter weekend, April 14th to 17th, the final table of which will be shown live on Sky Sports 2 at 9.30pm on Easter Monday, 17th April. Make that a date for your diary.
We refer to the €1,000,000 Guaranteed, Paddy Power Poker Irish Open!
Paddy Power are adding €50,000 to the prize fund of this prestigious tournament to be held at Jury's Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin. It is presented by the highly-respected "Gentleman" Liam Flood, who says:
"With the help of my good friends at the Merrion Casino Club and paddypowerpoker.com we plan to host the biggest and best poker tournament ever held in Ireland and, over the coming years, we will ensure the Irish Open becomes one of the most exciting spectacles in world poker."
Last year's Irish Open saw 172 entrants, including Noel Furlong (WSOP Main Event Bracelet winner 1999), Padraig Parkinson (3rd in the same 1999 WSOP Final), Andy Black (5th in the 2005 WSOP Final), Donnacha O'Dea, Simon Trumper, Willie Tann, Scott Gray, Dave Colclough, Marty Wilson and Roy "The Boy" Brindley, battle it out at the tables before the UK's "Burnley" John Falconer scooped the €146,000 first prize and winner's trophy ahead of Irishmen, Alan Betson, Tony Cooney and Rory Liffey.
Apart from the anticipated return of these and many more professionals - young gunslingers and grizzled veterans alike - there will be a good number of qualifiers from the Paddy Power Poker on-line rooms. There is a massive incentive for on-line players here this year because not only will qualifiers gain entry into this event but the best placed of them in the event itself will win a further prize worth $12,500 - an entry into the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas in the Summer!
The Main Event commences on Saturday 15th April with an entry fee of €3,000 + €200, and is scheduled to last for three days.
Supporting events are as follows:
Friday 14th April: €400 + €40 No Limit Hold'em Rebuy, with €5,000 added.
Sunday 16th April: €300 + €30 No Limit Hold'em Freezeout, with €2,500 added.
Monday 17th April: €150 + €15 No Limit Hold'em Rebuy, with €2,500 added.
The Main Event has a maximum number of entrants of 400. The supporting events are limited to 300 apiece.
Online players at paddypowerpoker.com have a host of satellites and super-satellites to choose from to begin their individual quests for Irish Open and, for one fortunate or talented player, World Series of Poker glory.
This should definitely be an Easter worth waiting for!
