It may have happened in 2005, but you can do a lot worse than tune into Sky Travel Channel at 11pm tonight (Tuesday 7th February) for some highlights of the €2,000 World Heads-Up Poker Championship 2005 held in sunny Barcelona, Spain.
This tournament comprised of knockout matches with the best of Europe's poker players squaring up to each other in high-tension heads-up battles in a bid to get through to the next round to meet the winner of another match.
Britain was strongly represented with the likes of Peter Abela, Jac Arama, Dave Colclough, "Burnley" John Falconer, Paul "Action Jack" Jackson (who went on later in the year to finish runner-up to Phil Ivey in the Monte Carlo Millions), Simon Nowab and Simon "Aces" Trumper all in contention.
From Europe, Sweden's Frey Rutenskold and Peter Gunnarson; France's Pascal "Triple P" Perrault and Austria's Cai Lin Jin (runner up to Peter "The Poet" Costa in Late Night Poker) also featured.
It looks sure to be a good re-run!
Also on tonight is Heat 4 of the William Hill Grand Prix which can be seen on Sky Sports 2 at 10pm. This is the first showing of the heats of this inaugural £450,000 poker shootout tournament, and tonight you will see some more great names at work. Hendon Mobsters Ram "Crazy Horse" Vaswani and Joe "The Elegance" Beevers, Ireland's Andy "The Monk" Black (5th place in the WSOP 2005 Main Event), England's Julian "Yoyo" Thew, a man bang in form, Wales' Iwan Jones (London Open winner 2005), and tournament specialist from London, John "Large" Kabbaj. A phenomenal line up.
If the USA scene is more to your liking, Challenge TV is showing a re-run of one of the World Poker Tour Final Tables at 10pm and that is followed on the same channel by the Poker Superstars Invitational from Cabazon, USA, featuring the likes of Carlos Mortensen, Dewey Tomko, Todd Brunson, Kathy Liebert, Scotty Nguyen, Mimi Tran, Freddy Deeb, Ted Forrest, Cyndy Violette, David Sklansky, Johnny Chan, Huck Seed and Mike Sexton. A truly power-packed line-up.
Looking ahead to tomorrow (Wednesday 8th February), Channel 5 is showing a heat from the Party Poker European Open at 12.10am while, once again, Challenge invites you to share, at 10pm, in the thrills and bluffs of another WPT Final Table from last year.
Ed note: William Hill Poker gives away £25 every month when you play there.
