Great article I am a massive proponent of the bet, check, bet method. However, don't you think in the first hand you mention you're either winning an average size pot or going broke? Early position raiser normally equals premium hand (AA,KK,AK, AQ, AJ and TT/JJ). Against that range your basically hoping your opponent is an idiot and going to go broke with AK. Any other hand is more than likely going to fold unless they are beating you.
