i think slowplaying preflop here is fine. the blinds are early, so pumping it up wont chase anyone out, and it gives away your hand. Carlos is very good and tricky so he knows he can play AK postflop like the best in the world.

good work so far dissecting this!

Terrible min raise by opponent. Why would he check top pair with no kicker on that flop???

Defend those blinds. OK

No Limit Holdem Tournament
$1000 $50

UTG TIJO (4200)
UTG 1 BigD666 (860)

1 fold, BigD666 raises to 100, tommink calls 100, 2 folds, Hero calls 50

Final Pot: 625

Hero wins 625 ( won 25 )
BigD666 lost -200
tommink lost -200

We already saw that he will defend his blinds. It was especially cheap to do so here. 6-1 pot odds on calling the flop bet which was probably just a CB anyway. Gets to check the turn for a free gutshot and hits. I may have bet a little smaller than 3/4 pot but I'm guessing he's wanting to make it look like a steal attempt.

One thing to look at, he's keeping his bets small early in the hand and then putting the pressure on when he senses weakness. The small bets preserve his stack but still give him the lead in the hand.

Hand 77

No Limit Holdem Tournament
$1000 $50
5 players

Stacks:
UTG tommink (1710)
CO DC168 (1070)
BTN snake8484 (1675)
SB Hero (3245)
BB TIJO (4300)

tommink calls 100, 2 folds, Hero raises to 400, 1 fold, tommink calls 300

Flop: (7-Hearts) (3-Diamonds) (10-Diamonds) (900, 2 players)
Hero bets 900, tommink goes all-in 1310, Hero calls 410

Turn: (4-Diamonds) (3520, 2 players)

River: (6-Clubs) (3520, 2 players)

Final Pot: 3520
tommink shows: (A-Hearts) (A-Spades)
Hero shows: (J-Diamonds) (A-Diamonds)

Hero wins 3520 ( won 1810 )
tommink lost -1710

I'm not sure if he would have laid down the AJh preflop but here's what happens when you slow play AA. I understand his opponents just calling with AA UTG but it backfired on him. Why just call the raise preflop? Disguise the hand? Well, it got disguised.

After a stealing the blinds a few times, we come to Hand 88.

No Limit Holdem Tournament
$1000 $50
4 players

Stacks:
CO TIJO (4800)
BTN DC168 (1640)
SB snake8484 (855)
BB Hero (4705)

Blinds: 50/100

Pre-flop: (150, 4 players) Hero is BB (7-Clubs) (A-Spades)
2 folds, snake8484 goes all-in 855, Hero calls 755

Flop: (4-Diamonds) (8-Hearts) (4-Spades) (1710, 2 players)

Turn: (6-Hearts) (1710, 2 players)

River: (9-Clubs) (1710, 2 players)

Final Pot: 1710
snake8484 shows: (A-Hearts) (10-Clubs)
Hero shows: (7-Clubs) (A-Spades)

snake8484 wins 1710 ( won 855 )
Hero lost -855

A-7 is a little weak to call an all in with but here the short-stack has only 855 chips and Hero already has 100 in the pot so he has to call 755 to not only win 1710 but also eliminate an opponent.

Nice call on the flop. I think that if his opponent bet the turn, he would have won the hand. Instead he elected to check it down. Tough to fire that second shot.

Hand 101

No Limit Holdem Tournament
$1000 $50
4 players

Stacks:

Blinds: 50/100

Pre-flop: (150, 4 players) Hero is SB (A-Hearts) (5-Hearts)
2 folds, Hero calls 50, TIJO checks

Flop: (2-Spades) (10-Spades) (7-Hearts) (200, 2 players)
Hero checks, TIJO bets 300, Hero calls 300

Turn: (8-Hearts) (800, 2 players)
Hero checks, TIJO checks

River: (Q-Hearts) (800, 2 players)
Hero bets 1000, TIJO calls 1000

Final Pot: 2800
TIJO shows: (10-Hearts) (J-Clubs)
Hero shows: (A-Hearts) (5-Hearts)

Hero wins 2800 ( won 1400 )
TIJO lost -1400

Here he calls on the flop with ace high then gets very lucky and catches runner-runner for the flush. I guess his opponent felt like the 1000 bet on the river was a steal attempt.

I didn't post the hands but Hero has been raising almost every hand preflop and betting every flop to amass chips. He's really keeping the pressure on his opponent.

Hand 132

No Limit Holdem Tournament
$1000 $50
2 players

Stacks:
BTN Hero (7390)
BB DC168 (4610)

Blinds: 75/150

Pre-flop: (225, 2 players) Hero is BTN (4-Diamonds) (10-Diamonds)
Hero raises to 300, DC168 calls 150

Flop: (A-Spades) (2-Hearts) (J-Clubs) (600, 2 players)
DC168 checks, Hero bets 150, DC168 calls 150

Turn: (6-Spades) (900, 2 players)
DC168 checks, Hero bets 600, DC168 calls 600

River: (10-Spades) (2100, 2 players)
DC168 checks, Hero checks

Final Pot: 2100
DC168 shows: (9-Diamonds) (9-Clubs)
Hero shows: (4-Diamonds) (10-Diamonds)

Hero wins 2100 ( won 1050 )
DC168 lost -1050

He kept the pressure on and lucked into the winning hand. His opponent is playing weak.
