A player from Manchester has won the Pokerstars.net Italian Poker Tour Venice event in spectacular fashion. 21 year old Matt Perrins managed to end day 1a with the chip lead and never relinquished it, a very rare feat especially when you consider 439 players in total bought into the event. There were also many pro players in the field, such as Team PokerStars Pros Marcel Luske, Luca Pagano, Dario Minieri, Vanessa Rousso, Chad Brown and Johnny Lodden. Rousso lasted the longest, finally being eliminated in 14th place.

Under the lights of the TV cameras, Perrins defeated Johannes Sodastrom heads up

at 3AM to take the trophy and a €200,000 pay day. Perrins is only the 2nd IPT champion and said before the final that he would probably buy a house with his winnings.venice ipt

The next leg on the IPT is in San Remo between August 28th and 30th, you can qualify exclusively at Pokerstars.net where satellites are running daily.

Another Record turnout at Dusk Till Dawn
Despite August being a traditionally quiet month at the club, the DTD Deepstack Weekend once again smashed their attendance record for their £300 and £150 ranking events. The record of 360 players was set in February but this weekend saw a staggering 385 players making a £115,500 prize pool. The new start time of 2pm clearly did the trick. 190 players played in the £150 side event on Sunday making a £28,500 prize pool.fraser bellamy poker

Fraser Bellamy would emerge the winner of this landmark event, taking home £28,000 when he beat Richard Morton (Who also came 2nd in this event two months ago) heads up after a chop deal). Craig Taylor won the side event, no deals done, taking down the £9263 first prize.

September is traditionally the biggest month for the club so expect a few over/under bets taking place between now and then to see if the record can once again be bested. Hats off to DTD who have come out fighting since those closure rumours and expensive overlays.

DTD Main Event Result
1 Fraser Bellamy £34,466
2 Richard Horton £20,150
3 Lewis Morton Monaghan £12,090
4 André Bjornstad £8,484
5 Kyriacos Dionysiou £6,363
6 Ashley Mason £4,772
7 Mathew Seer £3,712
8 Frank Knight £2,651
9 Steven Munnings £2,121

UK Gambling Operators Heading Offshore?
Two of the leading bookmakers and poker operators in the UK are rumoured to be moving their business out of the UK to an offshore tax haven. Ralf Topping, the Chief Executive of William Hill is reported to have said it is difficult to compete with offshore internet based gambling operators, comparing the UK rate of 15% compared to only 1.5% in Gibraltar. Several newspapers over the weekend reported that Topping will be moving their online sports and phone betting operators to Gibraltar very soon. Perhaps their biggest competitor, Ladbrokes, are also rumoured to be considering a move as a direct response to any move William Hill make. Both companies will be reporting their interim results this week.
