gukpt coventry GUKPT Coventry Announced
Big news today from the GUKPT, as they have announced another Summer Series leg this month. The brand news G Casino at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry will play host to the latest leg of the hit tour. Venue Director Paul Davies did not want to wait so long to showcase the casino to poker players and establish it as a festival venue, so a fourth GUKPT Summer Series event has been scheduled to take place there from 27th-30th August, 2009.

The festival schedule is the most affordable one yet but as always, including a seat in the
Unibet Poker
Champion of Champions event at the end of the year.

Thursday 27th August - £200 NL Hold'em Freezeout - 7.45pm - 2 day event
Friday 28th August - £150 NL Hold'em Freeezeout - 7.45pm - 1 day event
Saturday 29th August - £300 NL Hold'em Main Event - 4pm start - 2 day event
Sunday 30th August - £100 NL Hold'em Bounty Freezeout - 4pm - 1 day event

Of course this isn't entirely breaking news here at UK Pokernews, as our roving reporter Ben Wilson hinted at it earlier this summer in his Walsall Summer Series Review, so you heard it here first.....sort of.

Channing Confirms Akenhead Percentage, Ends Staking Careerneil channing
Ever since James Akenhead made the November Nine WSOP Final Table, there have been whispers in UK circles whether long time backer Neil 'Badbeat' Channing was shrewd enough to have a percentage in the Hitsquad star.

This week he confirmed just that on his popular blog, saying "Just to clarify any rumours, it's true I have 25 percent. James is happy to get some lucky money on board and I'm absolutely delighted and very excited for him. I'm definitely going over in November and I'll really try not to fall asleep."

He also confirmed that he had a piece in Paul Parker and Jeff Kimber in their big PLO finals, and in JP Kelly in his bracelet win. His Black Belt Poker graders also cashed for $187,000 and Channing has a piece in at least $1.8 million in UK cashes. So it is something of a shock when he also announced an end to his staking career:james akenhead

"Now though I must formally announce the end of my staking career. I did find again throughout this year, the whole thing has distracted me from my game, and I want to return my focus to my play, and also to Black Belt Poker. I only started staking people with the end goal of the business in mind, and its here now. I worried a little that I asked a group of guys to make a considerable effort to qualify for staking, through our business, and then I allowed another bunch the privilege, without making them do anything."
