unibet London Poker Championships and Unibet Open Results
Last weekend the London Poker Championships came to an end with the Unibet Open Main Event. The two week festival at the Vic might have been announced at quite a short notice and had the end of the WSOP Main Event to compete with, but it was still a very popular and well attended affair.

The festival started with a £300 freezeout which was won by none other than Vic regular Willie Tann scoring one for

the UK legends for a ten grand pay day. Mark Winter won the following days £100 rebuy for £9250 and Darren Fuller won £7375 the next day in the £200 freezeout. Jan Gustafsson won the PLO rebuy event for £8300 and the rare appearance of a £100 PLO hi-lo rebuy was won by O8 specialist Woody Deck for £5000.

Teemu Jaatinen won the biggest side event of the festival, the £500 freezeout for £16650 and the £300 bounty event went the way of Trevor Tanchel for £5670. One of the most eagerly awaited events was the £100 dealers choice rebuy, which was won by Ian Wilmott for £4350. The final side event, the £200 rebuy was won by Louise Hall for £13900.

The main event, the £2500 Unibet Open was part of what is fast becoming a hugely popular European poker tour, one that many are saying will rival the EPT in the coming years. Unibet Poker brought with them an army of online qualifiers and international celebrities, to join a contingent of UK players eyeing up the sizable first prize. Michael Greco, Sam Trickett, Jeff Duvall and Ketul Nathwani were amongst the 266 players that contributed to the eventual £187,000 first prize. Thats an impressive attendance by anybodies reckoning, especially during a recession and with the WSOP barely having finished when the event started.

Sam Trickett was unlucky to bubble the final, but Mohamed Muse and Arkady Kielman represented the UK at the very international final table. They would all have to bow down, however, to Thanh Doan of Finland who eventually defeated Arkady Kielman heads up for the title and £187,000 first prize. Well done to UK player Kielman who shipped £122,000 himself for his finish in this very well organised and promising event, the next leg of which takes place in Prague in September and you can qualify a number of ways via Unibet Poker.

Derek Murdie wins APAT Scottish Amateur Poker Championshipsapat poker
Over in Scotland another sell out field was taking place, this time for the APAT Scottish Amateur Poker Championships at the Gala Maybury Casino in Edinburgh. 130 players from all over the UK attended the low buy-in, deep stack affair which was sponsored by Blue Square and boasted a Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Champion of Champions Seat to the winner on top of the normal prize pool.

Derek Murdie from Hawick defeated David Blane (No not the Magician guy) heads up after two long days to captured the title, the £3,000 first prize and the seat in the Champion of Champions event at the end of the year. APAT now moves to the centrepiece of it the 2009 season, the 450 player World Amateur Poker championship Festival at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham at the end of August. The Festival will include Omaha and HORSE championships alongside the prestigious World Amateur Poker Championship event.

We high carded for $10000 worth of expenses. I ended up having to pay $1750 for Texas tikets. Only a $500 loser on the trip. Skill game.
