The first Main Event of the 2012 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) kicks off today at the G Casino in Manchester and everything is pointing towards it being a bumper crowd.
The £1,000 + £70 Main Event is the first of 13 legs on the sixth season of the ever-popular GUKPT, and for their money players receive 20,000 tournament chips and a tried and tested blind structure that plays out to an hour-long clock.
The corresponding event last year saw 207 players participate, creating a prize pool of £207,000 that was shared out amongst the top 22 finishers. In amongst the entrants were the likes of William Fry, Priyan de Mel, Steve Jelinek, Marty Smyth, Karl Mahrenholz and Jeff Kimber. The eventual winner was Peter McAdams who defeated Daniel Charlton heads up to claim the £58,100 first place prize. Charlton had to make do with "just" £39,350.
Most of the UK's big name players are expected to descend on Manchester in an attempt to pick up some early GUKPT Leaderboard points. This year the GUKPT is giving the eventual winner of the leaderboard entries into every single GUKPT Main Event in 2013, plus accommodation on each stop, which is worth around £40,000.
Who will win the first leg of the 2012 GUKPT? Tune in over the weekend to find out!
