Shallow Takes Overwhelming Chip Lead Into WPT Ireland Final Table

When it comes to No Limit Hold'em poker tournaments nothing is certain but here at UK PokerNews we would be extremely surprised if tomorrow morning we were not writing an article detailing Dave "Dubai" Shallow's victory in the World Poker Tour Ireland Main Event.

You see Shallow goes into the five-handed final table holding 6,115,000 of the 10,140,000 chips in play, or more than 60% for those mathematics lovers amongst you. You may be looking at that last sentence and thinking we have mistype the number of players at the final table but alas we have not because Shallow eliminated two players in one hand on the final table bubble meaning today's finale will only feature five players.

That particular hand saw Shallow open from early position to 85,000 (blinds 20,000/40,000/5,000a) only to see Steve Moreau three-bet to 220,000. Then Shaun Conning moved all in for his tournament life, Shallow re-shoved for more than 2,400,000 and Moreau snap-called! The latter looked set to double up with pocket aces against Conning's queens and Shallow's jacks and that looked even more likely when the flop came down {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} but the {J-Spades} on the turn completely turned the hand on its head and when the {4-Clubs} landed on the river both Conning and Moreau were eliminated and Shallow started to stack his massive stack of 6,115,000 chips!

The final table kicks off at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin at 1400 and play will continue until only one player is seated on the feature table with all the chips in front of him. Each of the five hopefuls is now guaranteed €39,270 for their efforts over the past week but one will walk away with €202,680, a seat to the $25,000 WPT World Championship and the title of WPT Ireland Champion. Whether you can follow the live updates in the WPT site or watch the live stream (delayed by 30-minutes) ensure you tune into UK PokerNews tomorrow for a full write up on the final table's action.
