Last year's Sky Poker Tour was a massive hit with everyone who took place and if this weekend's activities at the superb Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club in Nottingham are to go by then the 2011/12 edition is going to be nothing short of spectacular.
A total of 195 players exchanged £220 for 15,000 chips and an excellent blind structure that started at 25/50 and played to a 40-minute clock. By the time the six-handed tournament came to an end, after two days of play, it was Mariusz “Mariusz80” Srok had won every chip in play and the £12,675 first place prize.
What makes Srok's victory even more sweeter is he won his seat to Leg 1 in a £5 satellite on Sky Poker's online poker site and this marked his very first live poker tournament, what a way to kick of a career! Srok had to not only reach the final table but once there he had to contend with Sky Poker regular Ben Nuttall and his eventual heads-up opponent, the hyper-aggressive Basharat Mahmood.
After knocking out three opponents Srok entered the heads up battle with Mahmood with a two-to-one chip lead. Shortly after the one-on-one battle commenced it was all over. Mahmood moved all in with what turned out to be
and was called by Srok's
. The

flop hit both players but a second queen on the turn locked up the hand for Srok and he became the first champion of the 2011/12 Sky Poker Tour.
Along with the £12,675 first place prize, Srok takes an early lead in the Sky Poker Tour Leaderboard standings that play out across the seven legs and the Grand Final. If he can keep his place atop of the leaderboard he will become a member of Team Sky Poker and be bought into a full year's worth of events on the Sky Poker Tour.
The next leg of the 2011/12 Sky Poker Tour starts on December 10 at the Aspers Casino in Newcastle and satellites are already running in the Sky Poker lobby. Why not follow in Srok's footsteps and become a Sky Poker Tour champion from just a £5 investment.
