It seems like every man and his dog is on their way to the Czech Republic to participate ion the Prague Poker Festival. From Thursday 1 December until Sunday 11 December, Prague is going to be the home to the Main Events of the World Poker Tour, European Poker Tour and GSOP Live making for what should be an amazing couple of weeks.
One man who is certain to be looking forward to returning to Prague is the popular Welsh poker pro Roberto Romanello. Up until December 2010 he had already put in some great results in the live tournament arena but Romanello still lacked that coveted major live title that all poker pros want on their Curriculum Vitae. However, after December 2010 Romanello would well and truly get that monkey off his back once and for all.
The Welshman was one of the 563 players to exchange €5,000 for 30,000 tournament chips and the chance to become a PokerStars EPT Champion, one of the most prestigious titles on the live tournament circuit. Sporting what can only be described as a “hairy ski hat,” Romanello was calm, cool and calculating throughout the event and it was no surprise when he first reached the final table and then went on to defeat Emiliano Bono heads up to scoop the €640,000 first place prize.
This result not only put Romanello onto the map but it also seemed to give his live career a boost and since then he has gone onto win WPT Bratislava, won a €5,000 side event at EPT Barcelona, reached the final table of the £10,000 Six Max High Roller at the recent EPT London and narrowly missed out on a Triple Crown when he finished fifth in the €1,000 No Limit Hold'em event at the World Series of Poker Europe.
Prague will always be a special place for Romanello and he is certain to be present to defend his EPT title. Can he do it? If he can he will become the first-ever double EPT champion and write himself into the history book. Here at PokerNews we have full coverage of the Main Event from December 5-10 so make sure you follow Romanello and everyone else's progress on our famous live reporting pages!
