In breaking news, it appears that the Fox Poker Club has been sold to Genting Casinos UK Ltd for an undisclosed sum. The Fox Poker Club is London's only fully licensed and dedicated poker club and is situated in the very heart of London's West End, making it a prime location.
The club was the brainchile of Ian Hogg and Chris North who decided to start the venture back in 2005 when they realised there was a gap in the market for a poker club in the capital to the then booming online poker industry. Three years later the club was granted a much sought after full UK Casino licence then in Spetember 2010 the club finally opened after securing £1,000,000 worth of fundraising. Since opening the club has grown at an alarming rate and now boasts more than 20,000 members and employs over 80 staff.
The Genting Group who have bought the Fox Poker Club own the largest number of casinos in the UK with a total of 46, 47 if you include the casino license attached to their latest acquisition. Their main casinos are the Maxims, Min and Circus brands though they also operate The Palm Beach Casino which was the home to the WPT London Main Event that Jake Cody won and the monthly £1,000 Big Game.
The sale has come as a bit of a surprise to us here at UK PokerNews, not least so because traditionally the Fox Poker Club has had a strong affiliation with the 3D online poker site PKR and it has been possible to qualify for live tournaments such as London Calling at the Fox Poker Club via online satellites on PKR but it is highly unlikely that their affiliation will continue as Genting already have their own online poker site fronted by the likes of The Hendon Mob and James Akenhead.
