The 2011 World Series of Poker Europe is just around the corner and as in 2009 there will be a Caesars Cup taking place. Billed as poker's answer to golf's Ryder Cup, the Caesars Cup sees a Team Europe take on Team Americas and British pro Jake Cody has been chosen to represent the Europeans.
Former psychology student Cody recently became the youngest person to win live poker's coveted Triple Crown of titles. In January 2010 he took down the Deauville leg of the European Poker tour then seven months later he won a World Poker Tour title when he was crowned the WPT London champion. Then at this year's World Series of Poker, just 13 months after winning EPT Deauville, he completed the Triple Crown by winning the $25,000 No Limit Hold'em Heads-Up Championship!
Cody will represent a European team that is captained by Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier who says he is “very confident” in his team. ElkY has also chosen Gus Hansen and fellow Team PokerStars Pros Dario Minieri and Maxim Lykov to go into battle against Team Americas, lead by Phil Hellmuth. Team Americas other members are Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Daniel Negreanu and Huck Seed, who between then (including Hellmuth) have won 39 WSOP bracelets.
This year's Caesars Cup will be all No Limit Hold'em and in partner and heads-up formats, which is one of the reasons Cody got the nod from his captain, and will take place at 10:00 on Wednesday 19 October.
