The debut season of the 3 Lander Poker Tour concluded in Vienna last weekend, boasting a €522,000 prize pool and 261 runners. The tour was the first of its kind, to be held in three German speaking Nations (The previous two events were in Switzerland at the famous Grand Casino Baden and Germany at the Spielbank Warnemünde).
The tournament featured an elite field of players including 3LT Baden winner Tobias von Siebenthal, 3LT Warnemuende winner Pierluca Salassa, Everest Poker European Cup 2010 winner Mikael Johanssen, WSOP bracelet winners Michael Keiner and Sigurd Eskeland of the Live the Dream team, and recent Spanish Poker Tour champion Marvin Rettenmaier. Also playing was PokerNews qualifier Robert Kleene of Germany who won his seat in an exclusive freeroll on Everest Poker.
Overseen by legendary tournament director Thomas Kremser there was a party atmosphere in the air, as the tour also concluded with a VIP party the night before the final table. All of which guaranteed that 22 year old Joris Springael would be nursing a hangover at some point during the weekend, as the 22 year old was crowned the champion.
Springael of Belgium started the final table with an almost 2-1 chip lead which he never gave up, seeing off competition from a final 8 that included players from Hungary, Germany, Holland, Romania and France. Springael defeated Cristea Opria of Romania heads up for the first prize of €132,680 and the title.
