Julian Thew Joins Team Pokerstars
Fantastic news for one of the nicest most talented players on the UK circuit, as well as fantastic news for Pokerstars, as Julian Thew has been snapped up to their sponsored team. The Nottingham pro is already well known to Stars, having won the EPT Baden in season four for €670,800 and made multiple EPT finals. He has also won some big buy-in tournaments in Vegas and was the first man to win two GUKPT main events.
More importantly, he is widely regarded as one of the great ambassadors of UK poker with literally nobody on the circuit with a bad word to say about him.
“I'm thrilled to have been offered a spot on Team PokerStars Pro and I look forward to promoting the brand on my travels throughout the year,” said Thew
He will join JP Kelly, John Duthie, Vicky Coren and Jude Ainsworth as part of the UK & Ireland branch of Team Pokerstars. He will first be representing them at......
UKIPT Manchester Begins Today
One thing is for sure, it’s going to be big. The second outing of the Pokerstars UK & Ireland Poker Tour and the first one in England, the Manchester UKIPT Main Event begins today. The response has been phenomenal; the cap of 400 was quickly reached and thusly increased to 500, which will take place over two day 1s at the G Casino in Manchester.
One player who all eyes will be on is Jake Cody, who recently won EPT Deauville. This will be at his local casino and he will go into this the man in form. On top of the four day £550 main event, there are also two £100 events as well as a £300 two day event and a £100 satellite to the next leg.
With such a heavy online qualifier presence, it will be interesting to see over the next few months what sort of impact these £550 events will have on the other big UK tour, the GUKPT. Qualification has already started on Pokerstars for the third leg of the tour in Coventry, which takes place at the G Casino in Coventry between April 8-11.
