The first ever PKR Heads Up Grand Slam will air tonight on Sky Sports 2 at 10pm. Its an exciting new format from innovative producers Matchroom which no doubt contributed to their recent European Poker Award nomination, a heads up shootout tournament with a dynamic ‘Soccer Saturday’ presenting style.
The first show looks great as Luke “Full Flush” Schwartz takes on WCOOP champion Yevgeniy Timoshenko get the action underway. Tom “Durrrr” Dwan takes on WSOP heads-up runner-up John Duthie in a fascinating clash, while Annette Obrestad and Ian Frazer also lock horns. Sammy “any two” George takes on EPT Dortmund winner Sandra Naujoks, and the final match sees Dutchman Lex Veldhuis face Nam Le.
Also included in the 8 week show is the Devilfish, Tony G, Roland De Wolfe, Neil Channing, Vicky Coren and Phil Laak fighting for the $100,000 first prize.
“We have been looking at creating a heads-up event for a while now and I’m excited that we have the formula just right,” said Eddie Hearn, managing director of Matchroom Sport. “The poker played throughout the tournament was of the highest calibre and it makes for must-see television”
Of course if you love spoilers then Pokernews did the exclusive live updates for the event, which you can see here.
