Sunny Day in Walsall
The second leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour concluded last night, with one of the best young players in the country finally getting the title he has been close to landing for some time. A credit crunch denying 301 players bought into the £1000+£60 main event, which created a whopping £88,150 for eventual champion
. Sunny Chattha has been knocking on the door of a major British title for a few years now, having bubbled many
final tables and watching his brother Charles come second in Plymouth in 2007.
Sunny Chattha is also a member of the infamous HitSquad and was joined at the final table by his fellow member and in form James Akenhead. Also at the final table were legendary UK player Mickey Wernick, Joe Grech and GCBPT champion Steve Holden. Sunny and Grech got locked up in a heads up battle that went on for some time with Chattha steadily wearing down his opponent and taking the trophy, the prize money and a seat in the illustrious Champion of Champions event at the end of the year.
Praz Bansi is another Hit Squad Member who has won a GUKPT main event, with James Akenhead, Karl Mahrenholz and Charles Chattha all making main event finals too. As a unit they are really taking a stranglehold on the UK poker scene at the moment and the Hendon Mob have a real contender to the top UK poker faction accolade now with this major win from Sunny Chattha. Sunny Chattha said after the match that all those narrow misses in the GUKPT were all worth it, saying "All the bad beats were worth it and I'm happy to have notched up another victory for the Hit Squad."
1st Sunny Chattha £88,150
2nd Joe Grech £53,450

GUKPT League and Skalie Deepstack Tournament at Ladbrokes
Ladbrokes Poker pro Jon 'Skalie' Kalmar is hosting his own poker tournament and league every Sunday. The 'Skalie Deepstack' is, as the name suggests, a deep stack tournament with a $100+$9 buy-in. Not only can you satellite your way into this event every Sunday via a variety of daily feeders, but Ladbrokes are also kindly hosting a league in the event with live GUKPT seats on the line. The League will run for the next 12 weeks and the top 20 finishers will win:
• 1st $4,500 GUKPT Package (3 x GUKPT legs)
• 2nd $3,000 GUKPT Package (2 x GUKPT legs)
• 3rd $1,500 GUKPT Package (1 x GUKPT leg)
• Top 18 play for 1 additional Package ($1,500)
The tournament is every Sunday at 16:00 GMT and is hosted by the WSOP final table star himself. It's a really awesome value tournament as well as a superb structure, which means that surely the best players will emerge with a GUKPT package. What's more, the Ladbrokes Poker Million Dollar Race has restarted for March, to remind you this is a rake race with a million dollars of prizes awarded each and every month and much better value than a lot of the other loyalty schemes out there. The winner of the race gets $20,000 and when you factor in a $1000 sign up bonus when you join with Pokernews, that's a lot of spare change being handed out by Ladbrokes Poker.
