Marty Smyth Wins the $10k Pot Limit Omaha Champs at the WSOP

Marty Smyth has saved the UK's blushes by being the first player this year to capture a WSOP bracelet. The man from Northern Ireland has once again proven he is one of the top players in the UK, after a fantastic 18 months that has seen him win the Paddy Power Poker and the PartyPoker World Open. Now with his win in the much coveted $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha Championship, he has really established himself as a force in World Poker.

Supported by a raucous cheering section, the Belfast man beat out a field of 381 players, including many of the poker world's top professionals, to win his first WSOP bracelet and the $859,549 prize. Smyth is one of many Irishmen to make a final table this year and also makes the record for being only the second person to win an Irish Open title and a WSOP bracelet, an honour he shares with Noel Furlong.

"I'd like to thank everyone for the support I received during the tournament, both from the gang here in Las Vegas and from back home in Ireland", said Marty Smyth. "I've been getting texts and voicemails from family, friends and poker players from all over; all the well-wishers must have done me some good!"

UK Pokernews would like to congratulate Marty Smyth, who is truly one of the gentlemen of the game, for this fantastic scoop for the UK. Not only has it restored UK players reputations of the World stage but has reaffirmed that PLO is a game that the European's really need to be reckoned with at the WSOP.
