WSOP 2008 Brit' Watch

We are heading towards the final furlong in the 2008 World Series of Poker and a UK bracelet is now looking exceptionally unlikely. The 'Year of the Pro' certainly hasn't favoured the likes of the Devilfish, Ram Vaswani, Roland De Wolfe and all the other big name players from the British Isles.

There have been some glimmers of hope, however, that have restored UK player's reputations overseas. I think plenty will back me in saying that it was great to see 'Mad' Marty Wilson make the final table of the senior's event this year. By all accounts he played a bit of a blinder and was unfortunate not to be lifting gold in what would have been a real coup for UK poker.

The same can be said
Betfred Poker
for Micheal Greco who was straight up coolered at the $2000 Pot Limit Hold'em final table when he ran kings into aces, but at least he was joined by Ben Roberts which made it two of the UK's finest at the same final table.

One real promising final table appearance, and this guy is a real 'one to watch' on the UK Circuit, was young Sam Trickett making the final table of the $5000 6 handed hold'em event. Sam is a popular face on the UK scene, a regular at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham and goes home $245,000 better off, this certainly won't be the last time we hear of him.

No bracelets for the UK but ten in total at the time of counting for Europe, including big names like David Benyamine, Max Pescatori, Dario Minieri and Rob Hollink. The only notable mention is that Ram Vaswani is deep in the $10k PLO but other than that, it looks like we'll be pinning our hopes on a UK player making the final table of the big one before the poker world embark on London for the WSOPE, where we will have home advantage.

The main event is just round the corner and there is only one place to see the trials and tribulations of UK players, our exclusive live reporting section.
