The world of poker was focused on Las Vegas last weekend as the 2008 World Series of Poker got underway. Nenad Medic has claimed the first bracelet. We have full, live coverage of all the action here at UK PokerNews.

Prop bets, new sponsorships and bracelets have already been decided at this years WSOP and we're only three days in!

Yesterday, the $10,000 Pot Limit Hold'em event was won by poker professional Nenad Medic. In a, surprisingly, professional laden final table Medic bested Andy Bloch in a short heads up battle after the elimination of big name stars; Kathy Liebert and Mike Sexton. In the final hand Bloch opened up with a pre-flop raise with his

(9-Hearts)(9-Diamonds). Medic made the call with (5-Hearts)(7-Hearts). The flop was a mouth watering (8-Hearts)(5-Spades)(4-Hearts). Bloch bet out with his over pair. Medic, holding a flush draw and middle pair, raised the pot. Bloch called and the turn fell (J-Hearts). All the money went in and the river of (5-Clubs) was no help to Bloch. Medic took the bracelet and a huge $794,112 pay day for his efforts. A smiling Bloch, who was celebrating his birthday, soothed his runners-up pain with a $448,048 cash.

The opening $10k PLHE event has been a spectacular start to the WSOP. The field was littered with star names and a well known professional took home the title. Well done to UK pro' John Kabbaj for his plucky efforts in finishing 10th. Let's hope for more great showings from our boys and girls!

Away from the action at the tables Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars have been busy snapping up the best of the talent on offer so far. Finland's Patrick Antonius has join Team Full Tilt, further strengthening their already impressive line-up of professionals. PokerStars then announced an endorsement deal with female veteran Kathy Liebert following her superb final in the $10,000 PLHE event.

This years WSOP is already shaping up to be one of the most exciting for years. Follow all the action in our Live WSOP Reporting area.
