Bodog might be a name that is vastly associated with the USA, but the top poker room and sportsbook are planning to make waves across Europe and they started last weekend at the Waterford Open. The deepstack poker extravaganza from Ireland had the Bodog touch which included the legendary Bodog Girls in the players' lounge.
Over 300 players and plenty of locals turned up for the €500+€50 main event and the two side events at the Majestic Hotel in Tramore. This three day main event boasted a deep stack and slow clock that we have come to expect from major Irish events and the eventual winner, Sean Prenderville, went home with €18,000.
The final table started
with 'Mick G' running over the table, picking up as he left off the day before. The tide would eventually turn when Prenderville would flop quads against the pocket kings of the chip leader. When the action got three handed Paul Quinn was going for the win when he refused to make a deal and was very unfortunate to bust the very next hand to Prenderville. This made for a very short heads up between Prenderville and Willie Fitzpatrick which saw Prenderville come out on top for the title, made out of genuine Waterford Crystal. Emmet Gough and Derek Cosgrove would win the €250 and €100 side events respectively.
The participation of Bodog in this event has really helped to put the Waterford Open on the map. This event, along with the European Deepstack Championships, the Irish Winter Festival and the Irish Poker Classic are all really proving that Ireland is one of the best places in Europe to play cards and that the Irish Open is not the only major poker tournament held on the Emerald Isle.
The final table payouts at the main event were:
