If the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act has had any minor positive side effects, it has been the growth of the Asian poker market. Another major tournament is planned for Asia, and Party Poker have 11 packages up for grabs.
It's been pegged The Thriller in Manila after the legendary Ali vs Fraser fight, the Asian Poker Tour event in Manila, the Phillippines. On May 27th to June 1st, four hundred players are expected to take part in this event with a guaranteed prize pool of $1 million. For as little as $1 you can win a package worth $6,000, which includes the $2,500 main event buy-in, seven nights at the fantastic Dusit Thani Manila Hotel and $2,500 in
spending money.
Two main satellites with a $300+$20 entry fee are taking place on Party Poker every week with feeders starting at $1. A PartyPoker.com spokesman said: "Forget the rumble in the jungle, with the $1 million prize pool guaranteed there is no reason not to qualify online for the thriller in Manila."
On top of the main event, there will be a number of $300 freezeout tournaments and cash games. In addition, the event will host Asia's first-ever 13 Card Poker Tournament. The Asian Poker Tour will also take on a humanitarian side, inviting ten of the country's biggest celebrities to play poker for the winning pot of Php 400,000. The prize money will be donated to the charity of their choice. Matt Savage is Tournament Director and will head-off to Manila after his stint on the PartyPoker.com Million in early May.
Party Poker is the best destination for tournament players wanting to win their seats to major competitions. Not only can you qualify for the Asian Poker Tour but there are round the clock feeders and weekly direct buy-in satellites to the World Series of Poker Main Event.
