These UK poker legends just can't stop being sponsored, right after we bring you news that Vicky Coren has been signed by Team Pokerstars, we find out that Jon Kalmar has been snapped up by Ladbrokes Poker. The WSOP Main Event finalist put pen to paper while going on a deep run in the WPT World Championship this week.
'Skalie' as the man from Chorley is known online commented "I'm thrilled; I can't wait to take up my role of Ladbrokes Poker pro in an official capacity! I'm raring to go. As part of Team Ladbrokes in 2006 I came 82nd in the main event and then finished in 5th last year let's hope I continue to improve upon my performance."
Kalmar won
the hearts of all UK players last year with his 5th place finish, after admitting he was about to quit the game after a bad run of luck straight after the series. He ended up taking down $1.25 million and became an instant celebrity on the UK circuit.
Edward Ihre, Ladbrokes Poker MD commented: "The signing is a formality really, Ladbrokespoker.com already considers skalie a member of the team and Laddies has been skalie's online home for the past few years. It was only a matter of time before he joined our poker pro stable" He continued: "skalie's multi table expertise in tournaments will be a great asset to our team." Kalmar not only cashed in the 2006 Main Event with Team Ladbrokes Poker but his first major cash was a third place finish on the Ladbrokes Poker Cruise.
Not only did Kalmar cash big in last year's Main Event, he has quietly notched up a few impressive results since then, including:
