The show that started it all returns to our screens tonight for another competition that will surely crown a future poker superstar. Late Night Poker was the pioneering show that first displayed players hole cards using the under the table cameras, which went on to spawn hundreds of shows that followed the format. Late Night Poker, along with internet poker and Chris Moneymaker, is sighted as one of the catalysts for the poker boom which has made the game the massive industry it is today.

First aired in 1999, the show commentated by Jesse May, made household names of some of the biggest players in the game. The Hendon Mob, Phil Hellmuth, Simon Trumper and the Devilfish are all amongst the players

who won big on the show and went onto poker greatness. Daniel Negreanu, Marty Wilson, Surinder Sunar, Dave Colclough, Liam Flood, Marcel Luske and Vicky Coren have also appeared on the show.

At the end of 2007, the late Rob Gardner was honoured at the European Poker Awards for his contribution to making this show happen. The 'Innovation' Award received by good friend Jesse May was a testament to pioneering work that went on to influence the entire poker industry.

The new series starts tonight with a special celebrity edition to kick things off. The line up includes Cleo Rocos, Howard Marks, John Thompson and Dave Gorman. Our tip for the celebrity title, however, will be Hardeep Singh Kohli, the writer/presenter/comedian recently cut his teeth against some of the toughest poker players in the world in a documentary he presented on gambling and will know his way around the felt.

The real poker pedigree will come in the weeks that follow, with a collection of Late Night Poker regulars and the new wave of poker players all fighting for the $125,000 first prize. Joining many of the aforementioned regulars will be Jen Mason, Tony G, Roy Brindley, Theo Jorgenson, Kenna James and a host of online qualifiers.

So set your recorders to Channel 4 tonight from 11.50pm and see where it all started.
