With Event #1 of the 2008 WSOP kicking off yesterday, time is running out for players who still want to make it to the World Series of Poker Main Event this year. If you belong to the vast group of players still trying to secure a seat for poker's greatest event of the year, PokerStars may have just what you've been waiting for. PokerStars recently announced a WSOP super satellite, where it will be awarding $2.5 million in guaranteed Main Event packages, each valued at $12,500. Each package, of which an estimated 200-plus will be up fro grabs, includes the $10,000 buy-in for the 2008 WSOP Main Event, hotel accommodation for the two-week period, round trip airfare to Las Vegas and $2,500 spending money. The super satellite, which has a buy-in of $370, will be held on June 15th.
Last year's WSOP super satellite tournament saw 7,377 players enter to take a shot at winning one of the 150 guaranteed prize packages, making it the biggest WSOP satellite in history, which ended up awarding 220 seats to the 2007 WSOP Main Event. But PokerStars wouldn't be PokerStars if they weren't aiming to set a new record this year.
With over 1,200 seats to this years WSOP already awarded and guaranteeing to reach the 2,000 mark before the start of the Main Event, PokerStars really seems to be the place to go when you're looking for a WSOP ticket.
But with Doyle Brunson announcing the first "Shuffle up and deal!" last night in the Amazon room, there are only a few weeks left to secure a spot for the 39th World Series of Poker Main Event.
