Betfair Poker have once again shown that they are the Arsene Wenger of poker, with their knack of snapping up young raw talent. Joining Sorel Mizzi and Annette Obrestad will be Annette's old sparring partner John Tabatabai. The cash game specialist is the third major signing in the last 12 months for Betfair and he will be representing them at the World Series of Poker this year.
Tabatabai turned a lot of heads last year at the WSOPE with his fearless, aggressive and occasionally plain crazy style. It got him all the way to the heads up match with MTT giant Obrestad and after an epic battle he just missed out on the bracelet. He proved this result was no fluke earlier this year when he won the All Africa Poker Tournament.
Originally from Cardiff, now living in London, Tabatabai was a formidable chess player and even played in the European and World Championships. He moved to poker where he is a cash game specialist, having played under the guidance of the Badbeat trading programme and playing in some of the biggest games on Betfair Poker.
Like his team mate Annette, John built a bankroll after winning a freeroll while at University. By his own admission he didn't have the best bankroll management in his early poker career but the discipline and mentorship that came with being a Badbeat Trader developed him into one of the biggest cash game players online today.
Director of Poker, Bruce Stubbs, sat next to John on day one at World Series Of Poker Europe 2007 and had this to say:
"John is a very aggressive poker strategist, who also is an absolute class act at the table which is very refreshing to see. Although he came just short in the 2007 WSOPE, he managed to win in South Africa to prove he has what it takes. Like our other young guns John is making things happen right now, and we expect big things from him!"
You can emulate Tabatabai, Mizzi or Annette by signing up to Betfair Poker today and making the most of a $1000 first time deposit bonus. Just sign up using the link above and use the code BF1000 and who knows, maybe you'll be the next inductee of Team Betfair.
