The Hendon Mob's Joe Beevers has closed the door on 2007 with a million dollar pay day at the Poker Million VI in London last Friday. Beevers got through possibly the toughest final table assembled in the competitions history to take his second major title of the year. He bested the likes of Ian Cox, Howard Lederer, Liam Flood, Julian Gardner and runner up Marty Smyth on his way to the title.
It was an up and down tournament for Joe, which saw him chip leader and short stack on numerous occasions. His heads up battle with last year's finalist Marty Smyth took place well into the early hours of the morning and both men looked like they could have potentially won it. The title was won when the blinds were getting heavy and Beever's pocket nines held against the king high of Smyth.
It has capped off a brilliant year for Joe, which started this year at the WSOPE when he made the final table of the HORSE event. He then went on to win the Great British Poker Tour main event in Bristol for £87,500 and now this $1million pay day if his biggest cash to date. His tournament earnings this year are over $1.2million and this takes his career earnings to $2.3 million.
Hats off to runner up Marty Smyth, who came to the poker world's attention in this event last year when his aces were cracked after he looked like winning it. He did, of course, come back fantastically by winning one of the biggest tournaments in Europe, the Irish Open, and this $500,000 payday will surely remind him just how good a year he has had.
Congrats to Joe from all at UK Pokernews, we are sure you'll be having a Merry Christmas after this
