Vaswani and Judah go close in Dublin final

Hendon Mobster, Ram Vaswani and poker legend, Mel Judah both ran close in the €3000 main event at the Irish Poker Tour in Dublin. As day 3 began, after lunch on Sunday, Vaswani was the clear chip leader.

At 2pm the final nine players, many looking weary after two days of hard grinding, sat down to fight it out on a warm day here in Dublin. Ram Vaswani was in a commanding position with over half a million in chips. Close on his heels was Mel Judah on 360,000 with Tony Baitson on 174,000 and Alan Trueick on 136,000 in contention. Julian Thew was struggling on 70,000 along with Greg Hemphill on 65,000 and Brendan Walls on 55,000.

After four hours the final was down to four players. Vaswani was still in a strong position but had seemingly "eased off the gas". Perhaps the tough two days play previously and the regular appearances on the feature table were taking it's toll on the Mobster. Brendan Walls had put in an outstanding display of poker today and was now well in sight of a victory despite starting the day as the short stack.

Mel Judah fell first in 4th and took what was perhaps the loudest round of applause of the day. The old master looked delighted with the result. Next, bookmakers favourite Ram Vaswani exited in 3rd. Vaswani refused to deal with 3 players remaining.

After six hours of final table action it was Brendan Walls who took victory against Mohommad Shafiq. After a remarkable fight back, where Walls was almost on the felt, few would deny he was a deserved winner. Walls Takes a €170,000 winners cheque and a very attractive trophy. Rumours are the final two did a 50/50 deal, this is yet to be confirmed or denied officially.

The City West Hotel made for a splendid location for this event. Their no-smoking convention centre has room for around 300 players and there is plenty of space to move around. Despite one or two niggly problems such as ice cold air conditioning and sporadic start times the festival was run very smoothly on the whole.

The final side event takes place today, the €300+€30 No limit hold'em, at 4pm.
