Old Trafford to host Poker Festival

The home of Manchester United is to play host to a new poker festival. The seven day festival, which starts in June, is expected to attract a number of amateur and professional players from around the world.

A guaranteed prize pool of $1m is on offer over the seven days with 5 tournaments in Texas Hold'em, Omaha and S.H.O.E. Alongside the tournaments, players can expect some high paced cash games, a gala dinner, free daily buffets and a tour of the Old Trafford Stadium.

Satellites are running at various online poker rooms for entry into the festival. The River Card poker room is amongst the poker rooms offering packages. Their package is valued at $10,500 and comprises of 7 nights in a Manchester hotel for 2 people, a tour of the stadium, 2 gala dinner tickets, £300 for travel expenses, zero rake cash games and entry into the 5 poker tournaments.

Dave Brannan, from The River Card says "The festival will be the largest ever event to be held in Europe outside a casino and is already generating a lot of interest within the poker community and we are hoping to have it televised. Choosing a non casino venue has certainly brought its own challenges, but we are working closely with the Gaming Commission to ensure the success of the event for everyone".

A $1,000,000 prize pool is expected to be generated at the festival, making it one of the biggest poker festivals in Europe. With this much money on offer, could poker be the new football?
