Chip leader Andy GarzaOfficial Day 1 Chip Counts Released
The WSOP has now released it official chip counts summarizing Day 1 play, and as expected, Andy Garza emerged as the overall leader. He'll return tomorrow with 169,200 in chips. Here is the overnight top ten.

Play Concludes For the Evening
After starting the day with 2,304 players stretched into the various overflow areas here at the Rio, we are now down to just 168 players on less than 20 tables in the far corner of the Amazon Room.
These players will sleep in a bit later tomorrow and arrive here for a 2:00pm PDT start time. They'll then play down to the final nine players that will comprise Thursday's final table.
Andy Garza ends the day as the probable chip leader with 164,000. George Lind and Donny Carlton are not far behind however, each with over 125,000 chips. Slightly above average in chips and always a threat is Phil Hellmuth. You can be sure he has his sights set on a final table appearance and a record 12th WSOP gold bracelet. Will he finally get it? Morgan Machina Picks Up a Nice Pot
Action folded around to the play on the button and he raised to 3,500. Morgan Machina reraised to 9,500 from the big blind and the button pushed for 13,500. Machina made the call and the players showed:

Bradley Smithson Eliminated
Action folded around to Bradley Smithson in the small blind and he moved all in for about 12,000. Shawn Buchanan called from the big blind and the players showed:

Another Record Broken
Another announcement was made after the players were "in the money." The players congratulated Phil Hellmuth on a record WSOP cash. As if holding a record eleven WSOP gold bracelets wasn't enough, Hellmuth currently enjoys the record for most WSOP cashes with 65.

In the Money!
Our 198 in-the-money finishers just let out a huge cheer, knowing that they'd survived long enough to at least double their buyin.
Not cheering at all was bubble boy Leroy Ne. He moved all in for 6,500 from the button with

Andy Garza On a Heater
Andy Garza just sent a player home and became the clear chip leader. The exact action is unclear, but Garza's
trounced the 
of his opponent when, despite a high flop, a hit the turn. Garza finished with a full house to send another player home and take his chip stack to slightly over 162,000.
