Event #22 Concludes

That brings an end to our coverage of Event 22 - $3,000 H.O.R.S.E from the Amazon Room at The Rio in Las Vegas. It was an exciting event that saw a world-class field of 414 players hit the felt. Today our final 16 was full of talent but as the big names dropped away it was Full Tilt's Jens Voertmann who held his nerve to come through a tough heads up battle to capture the first place prize and coveted WSOP bracelet.

Congratulations to Jens, Doug and all of our money winners!

Thank you for following our coverage and we look forward to you joining us again as the 2008 World Series of Poker continues! Good night from The Rio!

Jens Veortmann outlasted a field of 414 talented mixed game players to take home his first bracelet and his first major tournament win. His ride through our final table was a bumpy one, but in the end, he came out on top. Congratulations to Jens Veortmann, Champion of the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. event.

Jens Veortmann Wins the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. Event!! Doug Gagner Eliminated in 2nd Place ($182,822)

Doug Gagner - 2nd Place
Doug Gagner - 2nd Place
Stud-8

All the money went in on third street. Gagner had a pair of eights and Veortmann had a pair of fives. Here is how the two boards looked in the end.

Gagner: {8-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}
Veortmann: {5-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {A-Clubs} {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}

Veortman rivered jacks up which was enough to eliminate Doug Gagner in second place. Gagner will take home $182,822 for a fantastic run in this event.

Voertmann Scoops Twice

Stud-8:

Jens Voertmann has just scooped two hands in succession to take a strangle-hold on this tournament.

In the first hand Voertmann led the betting all the way but was raised on the river by Doug Ganger. Voertmann quickly called. Ganger showed ({5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{A-Clubs}) {8-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs} for a pair of eights and eight-low but Voertmann held ({2-Spades}{6-Spades}{3-?}) {J-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{A-Spades} for a pair of jacks and six-low to scoop the pot.

The following hand saw Voertmann betting aggressively on every street once more with ({8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}) {6-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} for two pair. Ganger called him down with {7-Hearts}{A-Spades}{J-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} but could only table a pair of sevens.

Ganger is now crippled and down to his last 250,000 chips.

Ganger Doubles Up

Stud:

The pot was five-bet on third street between our two players. On fourth street, Jens Voertmann bet and Doug Ganger made the call. The rest of Ganger's chips went in on fifth street. At the time Ganger showed a pair of tens against a pair of eights for Voertmann. Ganger caught a second pair on the river for tens up and Voertmann never improved. After the hand, Ganger is back up to 1,325,000 and Voertmann has 1,175,000.

Voertmann Recovers in Stud

Stud:

Once again Jens Voertmann has found the Stud round to his liking after just capturing two massive pots against Doug Ganger.

In the first hand the action was 3-bet on 3rd street and then Voertmann bet the whole way showing {10-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{8-Clubs} forcing a fold on the river from Ganger with {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades}{J-Diamonds}.

The next hand the action was again 3-bet on 3rd street with Voertmann raising the bet from Ganger on 4th, before again taking the lead to bet every street. On the river Ganger made a move with a raise but Voertmann made a quick call.

Ganger flipped ({5-Spades}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}) {Q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{5-Clubs} for just a small pair with Voertmann's ({10-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}) {A-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{K-Hearts} good to collect the monster pot.

Jens Voertmann now has the chip lead with around 2 million chips.

Chip Update

Doug Ganger 1,800,000
Jens Voertmann 700,000

Play has now switched to 7 Card Stud.

Ganger Makes...Quads!

Omaha-8:

The flop was checked through with Doug Ganger betting the turn and river. Jens Voertmann called him down with the board showing 6-Q-9-8-8 rainbow.

Ganger paused for a moment and sifted through his cards and stated, "I....have....quads," and slowly tossed out two eights in the hole for the stone cold nuts. Voertmann grunted in disgust, perhaps at the result or perhaps at the way it was revealed as he slips to only 500,000 in chips.

Chip Update

Doug Ganger 1,600,000
Jens Voertmann 900,000

The game has switched to Omaha 8 or better. The first hand saw a huge pot between the two, but it was split.
