Congratulations to Svetlana Gromenkova, Event #15 Champion!

As the final card fell, Svetlana Gromenkova was wrapped in the collective embrace of her railbirds as she took down her first major title and her first WSOP bracelet. Usually a stoic figure at the table, Gromenkova was all smiles as she celebrated with her friends.

Anh Le is unfortunately the bridesmaid once again, making her second career runner-up finish in the WSOP Ladies Event tonight, having finished 2nd to Jennifer Tilly in 2005. She was clearly emotional in her post-game interview, but her face lit up when her daughter Isabella was mentioned. Le gave her five-year old a smile and a wave through the camera and departed the stage gracefully.

Gromenkova is a woman of few words. Before play started ESPN 360’s Howard David had asked her what she wanted the world to know about her. Gromenkova’s reply? “Nothing.”

David poised the question to her again in her winner’s interview and Gromenkova said with a smile “I just want people to know I’m a good player and I guess they know it now!”
