Day 1B Concludes

At just after 1am local time, we have reached the end of Day 1B in the APT opening event for 2008 in Manila. We had 195 starters at the start of the day and will end with 58 runners progressing though. With 32 players surviving from Day 1A we are left with 90 runners for Day Two.

It was a horrible start to the day for well known superstar Layne Flack who didn't even make it through to the first break.

For the most part of the day the Koreans took centre stage with their fearless style of poker and it was Lee Kwang Soo who will be chip leader tommorrow with well over 100,000 chips. He did get very lucky against Canadian Richard En when he cracked En's AA with KK. En showed how true pro's act when he handled the beat well and got back on with the job even though his table was rushed by Soo's entourage.

David Saab looks ready to pounce with over 70,000 in chips as does Deres Gerasimus with 65,000.

We'll see you tomorrow at 2pm, local time, for Day 2 where we will play down to the final table! Good night from Manila and we will have final chip stacks posted as soon as they come to hand.

Jesse Maguire Busts On The Last Hand Of The Day

Young Australian hopeful Jesse Maguire has been eliminated on the last hand of the day. Maguire moved his remaining short stack into the middle with AQ and was unable to rundown his opponents pocket tens.

Richard En Doubles Up

Stephen Brian Lim raised to 3,000 from the cutoff and Richard En put his remaining 8,800 into the middle. The action folded around to Lim who made the call.

En was holding {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and was dominated by the {a-Spades}{a10} of Lim.

The board ran out {7-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}. The miracle river kept En's tournament dreams alive.

He is still short with 18,000 in chips.

Linberg Per Anders On The Move

Linberg Per Anders has been short stacked for most of the day. But this quiet Swede has blossomed since moving to the seat formerly occupied by Jack Fox. Anders is now holding over 60,000 in chips.

Fox was earlier making his long anticipated return to tournament poker. The Reno native is undecided on whether any future events are on the cards. One thing is for sure, he was disappointed after busting so early in the day after such an exciting build up.

David Saab Chipping Up

David Saab is accumulating chips at a solid rate. The former Melbourne, now Manila local, is up to 52,000 in chips.

Michele Ferrari Doubles Up Through Ali Khalil

Michele Ferrari and Ali Khalil both got their chips in preflop with Ferrari holding {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} against the {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} of Khalil.

An ace on the flop saw Ferrari double up.

Ferrari is now on 30,000 and Khalil has been left with 24,000.
