Asian Poker Tour Main Event - Manila
Day 3 completed

Congratulations David Saab

After four days of poker we will now say goodbye to Manila after the APT’s successful start to their 2008 tour. The tournament has been well run, well supported and looks to be the driving force behind poker here in Asia. Matt Savage has kept the poker side of things perfectly run and the APT staff have made sure that players have also been taken care of and well looked after in the exciting bustle that is Makati Manila.
To our champion David Saab, we congratulate you on an impressive victory. Well done to Chris Roh on your second place finish. The effort shown on the final table to overcome such an impressive line up was nothing short of breath taking and his legions of fans from Australia will be certainly partying hard tonight.
The standard of poker has been excellent and the contrasting styles of poker from different countries made for exciting poker. The Korean and Japanese invasion on the Phillipines made for entertaining viewing. The APT will now set its sights on Macau in August, where the guarantee has been pushed up to 1.5 Million $USD.
From a broader perspective the poker world will now firmly set its attention to the WSOP where PokerNews will be doing complete tournament coverage. It’s goodbye from the PokerNews crew here in Manila.

David Saab The Champion Of The APT Manila

Australian David Saab is the first APT Champion of 2008 defeating Chris Roh heads up.

On the final hand Chris Roh moved all in on a flop of {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{7-Spades}. He was called by Saab with {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. Roh rolled over {k-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and stated "You win".

The turn was the {9-Clubs} and the river the {10-Diamonds}.

Chris Roh Doubles Up

Chris Roh raised to 200,000 and David Saab moved all in putting Roh to a decision for his tournament life. Roh made the call and tabled A9 against the KQ of Saab.

An ace on the flop was all Roh needed to double up to 1,100,000 in chips.

And Then There Were Two.....

Even though Ishii held a commanding chip lead the two most likely players to win the title have battled their way to the heads up challenge.

Australian David Saab has been his usual enigmatic self whilst Chris Roh has continued to be ice cold, controlled and tough under pressure.

Saab, however, has Roh dominated and has three times the chips. He will be aggressive and keep the pressure on his Korean opponent. If Roh can double up early then this will be a titanic battle, but Saab will look to end this fairly quickly.

Players On Break

The remaining two players are on a break whilst the formalities take place.

Ishii Satoru Eliminated By David Saab

David Saab raised and was re-raised by Ishii Satoru. Saab then moved all in putting Satoru to a decision for all his chips. Satoru made the call instantly and turned over {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} to have Saab dominated with {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}.

The flop came {k-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} and Saab had hit the lead crushing the hopes of Satoru who now needed to hit a queen. The turn was the {9-Spades} and the {9-Diamonds} on the river meant Satoru was headed for the rail.

Saab takes a commanding chip lead into the heads up contest.

Saab 2,600,000
Roh 760,000

Congratulations to Ishii Satoru on his third place finish.

Action Stalls

Since he double up by David Saab the three players have been stealing blinds. The action has really slowed up and we have not seen a flop for quite a while.

David Saab Doubles Up In Huge Pot Against Satoru

David Saab is the new chip leader and the Aussie contingent has erupted silencing the Japanese. In crazy scenes the chips went into the middle on a flop of {j-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}. Saab was holding {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} and had Ishii Satoru dominated with {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}.

The turn came the {5-Hearts} and Satoru had picked up a flush draw. The river was the {2-Clubs} and Saab had doubled up in jubilant scenes.

Play Resumes

The cards are in the air for the remaining 3 players.
